Do I need to be extremely flexible for a Thai Massage session?
You do not need to be unusually flexible or familiar with yoga. The purpose of treatment is to help increase your flexibility through a series of warm-ups, gentle palm and thumb pressure, rocking, and yoga-type positions. A skilled Thai practitioner can feel your range of motion and knows just how far to take you through various positions, moving and positioning you safely within your comfort level.
Are there medical conditions that would make Thai Massage inadvisable?
Yes. Not all forms of massage therapy are suitable for people with certain health conditions. It is always best to check with your primary healthcare provider about planning to receive massage therapy. Before you begin your session, the therapist will ask you general health questions. It is very important that you inform the therapist of any health problems or medications you are taking. Modifications can often be made to allow for a safe and therapeutic treatment. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Depending on your condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
Where will my Thai Massage session take place?
Your Thai Traditional massage session will be performed on a firm Thai Mat. The Thai massage station is fully enclosed with curtains for your privacy. The soft lighting and Thai relaxation music will be played to help you relax. The Thai station is especially designed for an ultimate Thai massage. A room with a massage table is also available for those who prefer to have the massage on a table.
How should I prepare myself for a Thai Massage session?
It is best to avoid having a large meal just prior to treatment. Thai massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client wearing loose clothing. Wear comfortable clothing that will move with you, such as light-weight slacks, sweats or cotton materials. It is also recommended that you remove all jewelry (small earrings are OK). However, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. Loose yoga-type clothing is available for your use, if desired. You will be properly draped during the entire session.
What should I do during my Thai Massage treatment?
As with any massage treatment, make yourself comfortable. Close your eyes. Let out all the tension by taking a deep breath. This is your time to unwind. During a Thai session, you may occasionally be instructed to change position, take deep breathes or grasp the therapist’s hands or arms for certain postures. Let your therapist know if at any time a posture is uncomfortable.
